History:
The Avery Drew Swenson Memorial Scholarship was established in her memory in January 2013. At the age of 8, Avery Drew was involved in a tragic accident while snow sledding with family and friends. In her short life she touched many. Avery Drew was a fun, loving, compassionate, thoughtful, and giving child who always put others before herself. She was artistic and creative. Avery Drew was a leader who served as a representative on Greensville Elementary Student Council Organization in second grade. She participated in Music TAG in third grade and enjoyed the Art Enrichment Program. Avery Drew participated in girl scouts from kindergarten until her passing. Avery Drew was a kind hearted spirit, loving daughter and sister, a good friend to many and so full of life that she inspired others to live, laugh, and love.
Purpose:
The Avery Drew Swenson Memorial Scholarship exists to offer financial assistance to a worthy student who demonstrates not only high standards of academic achievement, but also exemplifies selflessness and the ability to put others happiness before their own. It is through this scholarship that Avery Drew’s memory will always live on.
Mission Statement
The Avery Drew Swenson Memorial Fund was established to celebrate the life of Avery Drew. Our mission is to keep Avery Drew’s giving spirit alive. Avery Drew’s memory will be rekindled yearly by recognizing a Greensville County High School student that best personifies the selfless qualities that Avery Drew exhibited during her short life. Avery Drew left a legacy of good that will continue through the charitable contributions of the Project Peace Outreach Fund.
Eligibility Criteria:
· a member of the graduating class of 2022 who attends Greensville County High School, Brunswick Academy, Southampton County High School, or Southampton Academy
(who plans to attend college or technical/vocational school)
· applicants must have at least a 2.5 grade point average
· must be of good character
Process:
Students wishing to apply for a scholarship should complete the application form and submit it with the required materials on or before the March 31st deadline. The application and required materials can be submitted to the Guidance department or mailed to the Scholarship Committee.
